"WOW! What a wonderful
program! Older people make great pet owners, and pets provide such good
companionship for them.
The Dubuque Humane Society was incorporated in 1901 to look after horses
and children, as well as companion animals. As human services took over the
children (and gasoline replaced the horse), we now focus our adoption efforts
on companion animals. We are celebrating our 100th anniversary this year
(2001) – and it is a wonderful year to announce free adoptions
to senior citizens. We truly feel this is a remarkable project, and are proud
