Hero cat helps orphaned kittens

(from pittsburghlive.com - By Hazel Palmer)

cat heroTake three litters of kittens found in Monessen, and combine them with a litter of kittens that were found at the gas company -- then combine them with many other orphaned kittens found by local animal lovers, and what do you get?

The answer is: More than 25 kittens ranging in age from 6 to 8 weeks old that continually eat, play and sleep. Their mission is to bring as much love and affection into your home as they possibly can.

Considering that they are healthy, wormed and armed with their first distemper shot (not to mention litter trained), these clean kittens are all ready to make their home with you.

Loving human hands have touched all of these kittens, but there is one that gave many of the kittens, something no human could offer them.

A white female cat by the name of Chyna carried to term still-born kittens. Although she didn't have the opportunity to nurse and nurture her own kittens, she took on the role of "mom" to many of the kittens who needed a mother.

Valley Pet Association in Monongahela (PA) and this cat became a team. As the very young kittens were fed by hand, the kittens would then be handed over for Chyna to lick them clean and nurture them. She allowed the kittens to suckle her although she didn't have milk to offer them.

Will your name be added to our list of heroes? Have you been contemplating opening up your home to a homeless cat or kitten? If you have a lot of love to offer, the time is now.

For those who live alone -- if you are experiencing loneliness, a kitten in your life could be just what the doctor ordered.

For those who have owned a cat in the past, perhaps your best friend died -- and you couldn't bring yourself ready to give your heart over to a new best friend.

If you are one of these, then consider this: New memories can be made. You have enough love to go around.

There will never be a cat that will take the place of the one you lost, but don't rob yourself of new memories filled with joy and affection. And on the flip side of the coin, don't rob a kitten or a cat from living its life to its fullest in your arms, on your lap, in your home.

Now it's your turn to be a hero. Call your local shelter today, and walk into a room filled with love -- filled with the purring of kittens. They await your arrival. Give this story a happy ending. Fill your home and your heart with love. You will never regret your decision.
